Dreaming of retiring in Southern California?
You too can live in Seal Beach, California for less than $200,000! Here is how…
We run across hundreds of retirees and soon to be retirees who are worried about their mortgage fitting into their retirement budget. Or worried about having to leave Southern California in order to retire. Thankfully, that does not have to be the case! Right here in Seal Beach, California is the gated community of Leisure World. Sure the name is not exciting and yes people have given it several demeaning nick names, but Leisure World offers retirees and soon to be retirees options they never knew were available! Not to mention Leisure World has seen a HUGE shift in its population in recent years!
Leisure World is located in the City of Seal Beach, California. It is a retirement community for residents 55+. The community houses 9,000 residents and offers amenities most had no idea existed. Within the gates of Leisure World is a first class health facility in which Doctor’s rotate in and out of from the local hospitals and offices. The health center offers a full pharmacy and social services professionals are on hand to help anyone in need. There is an outdoor amphitheater, a swimming pool, a 9 hole golf course, a library, a “Friends of the Library” book store, a metal shop, wood shop, churches, a car washing area, a vegetable garden area and lots more!
The population within Leisure World used to be known as quite “elderly”. However, with the economic down turn in 2008 – 2011 a lot of retirees and soon to be retirees had to consider a smaller home and/or downsizing. Leisure World happened to be absolutely perfect for many retirees who found themselves not quite able to buy a $500,000 house but rather a $200,000, $300,000 or $400,000 home instead. Leisure World offers a few different styles for its residences to choose from. There is the standard mutual which comes in one or two bedroom options. There is mutual 2 which has several completely remodeled from the ground up two bedroom two bath options, The garden units offer a larger layout and an atrium which several residences have converted into a dining room and/or a third bedroom/office. Last but not least there are the towers in Leisure World, which do allow mortgages. The mutuals do not allow mortgages and are all cash.
With the economic shift the population shifted in Leisure World and today the average age is 65 years old. This new generation in Leisure World is active, vibrant and always on the go! Now days there are more clubs than ever before and the social calendars fill up quickly. Several residents travel regularly and thus Leisure World is just one of their many yearly stops along the way. One resident even lives in Peru 10 months out of the year and spends the other two here in Leisure World.
So by now, I am sure you are wondering what does a home for less than $200,000 in Leisure World look like? Here are some examples…
