Have you heard the hype about El Nino coming this winter? We personally cannot wait for the rain, we need it here in Southern California in the worst of ways. The NOAA released the photo above as a description of what we can expect as El Nino is coming to Los Alamitos, Rossmoor& Seal Beach. We personally loved the lone dog with the single tear running down his eye in this picture. Our dogs would be jumping in the puddles with the kids and no tears! However, on a serious note, the “Road Closed” sign, the lady knee deep in water as she walks across the street and the worker inspecting the “hole” in the street under the water are all going to be real issues as this winter El Nino approaches. Right now we are all trying no to melt in this heat, but we also need to start thinking about serious rain related issues we can prevent now. Call out your local roofer, order up those rain gutters and trim back the trees from your roof. If you have a slope of any kind going towards your house call a contractor and investigate how you can add a drain and/or change the slope to direct the water away from your home. If you have soil in direct contact with your foundation investigate a barrier of some sort between your foundation and the soil. Standing water against your foundation could possibly lead to trouble down the road.
Do you recall in 1992/1993 when Los Alamitos, Rossmoor and Seal Beach flooded? Parts of Rossmoor were under water, literally!! We personally got stuck on Katella trying to come home from Cypress, we eventually got home…2.5 hours later! We had gone to the Target in Cypress(before the Target on Seal Beach Blvd. existed) to buy some wedding magazines for my sister. We thought scoping out wedding ideas would be a good way to spend a rainy night…instead we spent it limping home through the flooded streets pulling our jeep up on various neighbors lawns to dry out the engine every 1/2 mile! In Seal Beach the streets flooded so bad that homes were 6-8 ft. deep in water! One guy even got in big trouble for riding a wave runner through the streets causing wakes to go further into the homes!
No matter which news outlet you read they all are saying that El Nino is coming and it will be strong! Please investigate your surroundings now. Go buy those rain boots while they are in stock (Nordstrom’s just had Hunter boots on sale) and prep for a lot of rain…El Nino is coming to Los Alamitos, Rossmoor & Seal Beach.
